5 Ways Your Business Can Use Snapchat

By Hannah Spanhake

You’ve probably heard of Snapchat, but just in case you’ve somehow missed the memo, Snapchat is a mobile app that lets you send public or private images and videos to people from your smartphone. But here’s the catch: They can only be viewed for up to 10 seconds.

Snapchat is the fastest growing social media platform with over 100 million daily active users and the unsurprisingly young demographic of 13 – 34 year olds are sending 400 million snaps per day. Although Snapchat does have a younger market, it’s still becoming an essential part of businesses marketing strategies worldwide.

When used effectively, Snapchat can help to increase engagement and brand awareness through innovative marketing campaigns. So how can your business use Snapchat?

1. Stories

You can create stories that expire after 24 hours, showcasing behind the scenes footage, real-time updates and live previews as they happen. Consumers crave transparency, so this will satisfy your followers, along with building excitement and conversation.

2. Deliver Private Content

Snapchat is a great way to provide special content to your audience that they might not receive on other digital platforms. Think of something unique to surprise your community of followers such as special coupon codes, sneak previews of new products or live reviews.

3. Provide Access to Live Events

If you’re weighing up solutions for real-time social media marketing (other options include Periscope or Facebook Live), Snapchat is a great option because it can give the audience direct access to live events, and give the audience the ability to engage with you. You can use it for sneak previews, product launches, trade shows or one-of-a-kind events. Snapchat gets your audience excited because you’re providing a unique and more authentic view of what’s going on at the event.

4. Geo Filters

Geo Filters are filters that people to show to their followers that they are an event or specific location. New Zealand is currently fairly limited with Geo Filters, with only cities, universities and sports teams able to create personalised Geo Filters. But it won’t be long until Snapchat Geo Filters can be utilised by businesses. These updates are expected to roll out in soon.

Anyone can create a Geo Filter currently, and they have been very popular for personal use for events such as weddings & birthday parties. In terms of business, these will be perfect for events, competitions and fun advertising campaigns.

5. Contests and Promotions

Everyone loves giveaways and promotions! Challenge yourself to think outside of the box to come up with ways you can keep your followers coming back for more. For example, you could offer hidden promo codes or discounts to fans, or ask followers to send you a snap while holding your product.

Snapchat’s authentic platform can make an impact with your followers and strengthen your brand’s point of view with real-time marketing.
